This person will need to have the capacity to accept supervision within the child care program and to relate constructively to authority; ability to respond to client concerns with empathy; demonstrate responsible behavior and reliability; negotiation and conflict resolution skills and ability to multi-task; strong understanding of cultural differences; ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing with diverse populations; basic computer skills.

Responsibilities:

  1. Interact with all residents; assist them in completing the daily routine.
  2. Execute disciplinary action when necessary, in strict accordance with agency and DCFS licensing regulations.
  3. Complete assigned duties relative to hall functioning and ensure residents' adherence to all residential facility rules and regulations.
  4. Provide transportation as needed to activities, appointments, visits, etc.
  5. Document all services delivered each shift to comply with agency, state, and federal regulations and requirements.
  6. Attend staff meetings, give input into the decision making process, regarding case management and goal setting for individual cases.
  7. Meet program needs and staffing mandates by working flexible schedules as requested.
  8. Supervise visits between residents and the family of origin, as necessary.
  9. Complete necessary paperwork to track progress and plan for achievement of established goals by end of each shift.
  10. Dispense all medications and treatments to residents in strict accordance with all medical protocols.
  11. Demonstrate understanding and adherence to client confidentiality.
  12. Use of personal cell phones, pagers, etc is prohibited while on duty. These items are not to be on staff. The agency is not responsible for any damage to these items.
  13. Dress reflective of position as a professional representative of The Center for Youth and Family Solutions and appropriate to the activities assigned. Clothing cannot display drugs, alcohol, or sexual innuendo. "Urban gear" reflecting gang membership/affiliation or oversized clothing is not appropriate.
  14. Eat meals in the dining room area with the residents. Set example by getting a tray with everything that is served to the residents. No outside drinks (i.e. soda) or food are allowed in the dining room area during the resident's meal times.
  15. Pass written and physical competency test on Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training and implement these methods into the work setting.

Requirements include:

  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse and Neglect Screening
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and three years of driving experience
  • Preference given to candidate with residential experience or experience in human service field

Preferred Requirements Include:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree preferred, preferably in social work or other human service field as per current DCFS licensing standards. Possible less than college degree if a) years of residential experience, b) continuing education evidence of pursuit toward college degree.
